World Name: SciScape

Project Description

SciScape will be used by students participating in an interdisciplinary upper level undergraduate course at Cornell University, Theatre Arts 39 (also ART 391, ARCH 391, MUSIC 391). Lead faculty include M. Rivechin, Theatre; and Marcia Lyons, Art. This is a collaborative interdisciplinary studio course in a variety of digital and electronic media, including art, architecture, music, dance, film and video. Group projects and discussions will also investigate the artistic and interactive potential of a high-speed intranet connecting arts spaces on campus, including virtual and performance events. SciScape world will be the focused for development of a multimedia, multi-user space for group projects including one featuring the work and life experience of Barbara McClintock, Nobel Prize-winning geneticist. This work begins the design process of an exhibit on "Jumping Genes", a phenomenon in genetic diversity first identified by McClintock in the 1940s and now the focus of research examining its potential for genetic engineering. The exhibit will be integrated with the Gene House in SciCentr.
