World Name: GOTHIC

Project Description

The Gothic world will be used as part of an exploration in using multimedia technology to simulate the functions and experience of space in literature. Specifically to explore the role of architecture in Gothic literature, with a lean to seeking to establish the ways stories and novels of horror use, and are shaped by, spaces in haunted houses and other places. A version has been developed in HTML that serves as a rough 2D analogue to a gothic castle, called Gormenghast (http://www.centenary.edu/~balexnd/gormenghast). Students have explored this architecture before, learning through images, texts, and the experience of "moving inside" it about Gothic structures. Using the AW technology the project will be able to build a three-dimensional Gothic structure. This way the students can meet and discuss more fully, as well as experiencing a more accurate representation of Gothic structures.
