Project Description

Visualizing space has always been an intriguing challenge. Today, advances in 3D digital models have led to convincing digital architectural representations. However, at a time of the wide penetration of the Internet into every aspect of our lives, the development of virtual communities and e-marketplaces, how is 3D space on the Internet? This course provides the framework for advanced modeling on the Internet. By rethinking the relations between informational digital spaces as end products and physical spaces, the course investigates the potential use of digital models on the Internet, and the use of digital space as the end product. The course has 2 parts: 3D Modeling, and Internet structure and interactivity. The first part, based on stand-alone applications, concentrates on 3D modeling strategies, renderings, animations and the use of efficient techniques to put large models on the Internet. In the second part, students will study emerging web concepts and will be able to experiment with the latest web tools, and examine the implications and the potentials of presenting their models to large audiences.
