Project Description Our teachers have access to computers , and use email for exchange of brief communications such as scheduling, links to websites, and sharing word documents. Recent budget constraints have resulted in mandates to restrict travel, and opportunities for teachers of children with low incidence handicaps to get together have been severely limited. The virtual world format could enable teachers to communicate in both synchronous and asynchronous formats, participating in meetings for group chat, engaging in dialogue through threaded discussions, reading announcements posted on bulletin boards, and linking to email and list servers. Access to information such as lesson plans, handouts for parents, developmental skill progressions, current research, legal or professional guidelines for evaluation and planning, could be greatly facilitated, Forms could be accessed and printed out as needed. Links could be established and updated regularly for easy access to relevant websites, such as commercial sites for assistive technology, professional associations, or a myriad of available resources on the web. Teachers could enter and access data on program concerns, such as community mapping of learning opportunities for young children. Parents might also wish to participate in the virtual world community. | ||
