Project Description Active Worlds offers a potential to increase our technology outreach to both students and staff. The 3D environment is an interesting, entertaining, and challenging way to learn skills that will transfer to other learning situations. The 3D world will encourage students to practice online skills in a kid-friendly, non-grade related environment that they can build themselves. These skill areas will include an introduction to programming concepts, an incentive to improve keyboard proficiency; and an outlet for artistic expression in building and changing the online world. The 3D world will offer teachers an interesting setting in which to encourage extracurricular learning through online classes during summer vacation and to offer extra credit work during the academic year. There is much potential here in particular for both our technology education class and science classes to expand their education mission beyond the classroom. Teachers have the potential to encourage us of the internet from within a safe and controlled setting, and to use the ability to manipulate the 3D world as a way to encourage the technological skills students need in their other academic class work | ||
