Answers To Some Common Questions

  1. Does Active Worlds work with other Internet tools?

    Yes! Active Worlds can be used with web pages, audio files, video files, as well as any Internet software program. It's possible to launch ICQ, Netmeeting, IPhone, Word, Access, Excel, etc. from within AW. Using the inline web window, you can visit any number of web sites.

  2. Can we have custom objects in our world?

    Yes! While Activeworlds.com, Inc. provides a number of free objects paths for use in the AWEDU, you can create your own custom object path. Objects written in VRML 2.0 or created in 3D modellers like, TrueSpace are supported by the browser, or can be exported to RWX files using a 3rd Party Tools.

  3. How much will it cost my school to be in the AWEDU?

    We are offering the following components as part of the basic Educational Universe Package to qualifying participants:

    Free 60 Day Trial includes:

    • 400x400 Active Worlds Servers (hosted for free by Activeworlds.com, Inc.)
    • starter package of 20 Citizenships
    • Subscription to the Educational Universe Virtual Learning Discussion ListServ
    • Access to a selection of 3D Object paths and avatars

    If, after your 60 day trial, you'd like to continue your AWEDU program, the annual subscription rate is $650 USD.

    Larger packages are also available on an educational pricing schedule.

  4. What qualifications do I need to be a participant?

    Applicants must be either part of an established educational facility, non-profit educational organization, or working on projects directly aimed at education. Details on the application process can be found here.

  5. My school only uses Macs, can we still use the Active Worlds Educational Universe?

    Yes! If your Mac computers use PC emulation software, like Virtual PC, it is possible to visit and use Active Worlds. However, it must be noted that Active Worlds is a PC software, and there is no Mac version currently available; therefore support is limited, and there are no perfomance guarantees.
